Xiaomi recently debuted its most advanced foldable phone, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2, in Mainland China. The company also introduced the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro, Redmi K50 Ultra, and a variety of other ecosystem devices.
When unfolded, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 measures a mere 5.4mm1, providing a seamless viewing experience across its inner and outer screens. As one of the slimmest foldable phones on the market, it measures only 11.2mm1 when folded. It also features an exceptional Leica camera system and utilizes the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform for optimal power efficiency.
To achieve these advancements, Xiaomi concentrated on improving the hinge mechanism. The Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 boasts a proprietary Micro Waterdrop Hinge, incorporating a smaller bending radius, slimmer screen modules, and a customized mini rotating hinge. With only 87 components, this innovative design allows for an unprecedented light and thin hinge.
The Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 showcases an inward folding design, featuring two AMOLED displays of different sizes on each side. The outer display boasts a classic 21:9 aspect ratio, ensuring compatibility with most apps. This 6.56" display utilizes Samsung E5 material, offering a 2,520 x 1,080 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, P3 color gamut support, and an impressive 1,000 nits of brightness, exceeding the capabilities of many standard displays.
Unfolding the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 reveals an expansive 8.02" Samsung Eco2 OLED display. By implementing POL-LESS technology, this display replaces the traditional polarizer with a slim color filter and employs black matrix material to minimize screen reflections. Light transmission is boosted by 33% compared to conventional displays, while power consumption is reduced by 25%. This screen boasts a resolution of 2,160 x 1,914, supports the P3 color gamut, and features LTPO 2.0 1-120Hz AdaptiveSync Pro technology. Additionally, an ultra-low anti-reflective film helps reduce screen reflectivity to less than 2%.
Both displays offer a 120Hz refresh rate, professional color calibration for primary hues, a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, and Dolby Vision support. Regardless of which screen is in use, the device ensures natural and seamless automatic brightness adjustments thanks to dual ambient light sensors on the front and back.
The Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 operates on the latest MIUI Fold 13 operating system, optimized specifically for the foldable format. The device’s system applications have been tailored for its larger screen, with many app interfaces redesigned to enhance the user experience. The calendar, file manager, voice recorder, notes, and other applications incorporate a new column layout to fully leverage the spacious display. Third-party application compatibility will be based on solutions provided in Android 12L, providing more robust native support for a wider range of apps.
Further innovations in the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 are evident in its smart screen interactions. Users can now effortlessly split the screen with a three-finger swipe. The sidebar grants swift access to floating windows and can also be used to exit split-screen mode.
Xiaomi sets a new standard for smartphone photography with the MIX Fold 2 by combining Leica’s imaging mastery with its own expertise in computational photography. The Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 incorporates a 50-megapixel IMX766 primary camera with 7P lenses and ALD low-reflection coating to deliver exceptional image quality. Complementing this are a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera and an 8MP telephoto camera offering 2x optical zoom and portrait capabilities.
Featuring Xiaomi ProFocus technology, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 boasts swift camera startup times, rapid image capture, and continuous shooting at up to 30 frames per second. For video recording, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 supports Dolby Vision HDR and incorporates both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for an immersive viewing experience.
Powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 delivers exceptional performance. Its cutting-edge 4nm manufacturing process significantly enhances energy efficiency while packing billions of transistors into a space no larger than a fingernail. This allows both the CPU and GPU to achieve a 10% performance boost while simultaneously reducing power consumption by 30%.
The device features a robust cooling system equipped with a large vapor chamber cooling system (VC), a rarity in foldable smartphones. The high-performance VC offers a surface area of up to 2,520 mm2, leading to a 50% improvement in thermal conductivity compared to traditional VCs. The battery’s inner layer is protected by a second-generation boron nitride heat dissipation film spanning 3,715 mm2.
Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro
The Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro boasts a sizable 12.4" display with a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and hardware-level blue light reduction. Its built-in conference mode enables real-time speech-to-text conversion, distinguishes between multiple speakers, and supports real-time translation between Chinese and English.
Redmi K50 Ultra
The Redmi K50 Ultra joins the popular Redmi K50 Series. This device is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform and features a 1.5K flatscreen display. Its triple camera system comprises a 100MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2MP telephoto camera, all enhanced by Xiaomi’s artificial intelligence (AI) imaging solutions. The 5,000 mAh battery and 120W HyperCharge technology enable a full charge in just 19 minutes.2
Xiaomi also released the Redmi K50 Ultra Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team Summer Edition. This special edition complements the Redmi K50 Ultra’s performance with a design incorporating the racing team’s signature silver color, petroleum green lines, and carbon fiber textures.
Xiaomi also introduced the Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro, Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro, Xiaomi Conference Tapcast, and Xiaomi Bluetooth Speakerphone.
