Vistara, a new airline, launches in India

Tata SIA Airlines Limited (TSAL) revealed “Vistara” as the name for its new airline on August 11th. This announcement follows a September 2013 agreement between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines to create a new Indian airline, aiming to further boost air travel demand.

The name “Vistara” originates from the Sanskrit word “vistaar,” signifying “limitless expanse,” symbolizing the boundless sky, the airline’s domain. The logo, inspired by a “yantra,” a precise mathematical form representing the infinite universe, uses interconnecting lines to depict the seamless travel experience Vistara aims to provide. The central eight-pointed star embodies the high standards and commitment to excellence that will define the airline.

Vistara is set to commence operations in October 2014, prioritizing quality in every aspect of customer interaction. Headquartered in Delhi, India, Vistara will receive its first Airbus A320-200 aircraft in September. The airline plans to expand its fleet to 20 aircraft, including A320neos, within its first five years.

We believe in anticipating and thoughtfully addressing our guests’ needs from their initial point of contact to their departure from the airport. We aim to make a significant difference at every stage, bringing back the joy of flying for both leisure and business travelers.”

Swee Wah Mak, Director of TSAL and Executive Vice President Commercial at SIA, highlighted the importance of Singapore Airlines’ presence in India with Tata. He stated, “From a global investor’s perspective, the Indian aviation sector holds immense growth potential, and I am thrilled that SIA can now play a significant role in it. SIA’s globally recognized commitment to service excellence will contribute to establishing the finest flying experience in Indian skies through Vistara.”
