The fourth annual Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants awards ceremony will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, on February 29, 2016.
Bangkok restaurants have held the No. 1 position on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list for the past two years, demonstrating Thailand’s increasing culinary impact in the area. David Thompson’s Nahm won first place in 2014, while Gaggan Anand’s restaurant won first place in 2015. The 2015 list included Bangkok’s Eat Me (No. 25), Bo.lan (No. 37), and Issaya Siamese Club (No. 39) in addition to Gaggan and Nahm.
Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, HE Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, states: “Supporting this event aligns with our national goal of promoting Thai culture, particularly Thai food, to the rest of the globe. It will help to strengthen the country’s image and set us apart from competitors. Furthermore, it will highlight Thailand as a diverse fine-dining destination with a wide range of food alternatives created by renowned chefs and offered with warm Thai hospitality.”
William Drew, Group Editor of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, states: “Thailand has long been recognized for its rich culinary history and traditional street food culture. The country’s thriving restaurant scene has developed in recent years, embracing world-class businesses serving a diverse range of international cuisines. Thailand is quickly becoming one of Asia’s most important gastronomic centers, making it the perfect location for the 2016 edition of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants.”

Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants is curated by The Diners Club Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an influential group of over 300 restaurant industry leaders from across Asia, each chosen for their knowledge of the Asian restaurant scene. India & Subcontinent; South-East Asia – South; South-East Asia – North; Hong Kong, Taiwan & Macau; mainland China & Korea; and Japan are the six voting locations. The divisions are intended to represent the Asian restaurant scene as accurately as possible and are decided upon in consultation with the Academy Chairs. Each region has its own 53-member panel, which is led by a chairperson. Food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs, and well-known ‘foodies’ make up the panel. Each panelist has seven votes. At least three of the seven votes must be used to recognize restaurants outside of the voter’s home country. Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants is collaborating with professional services firm Deloitte as its official independent adjudication partner for the 2016 edition. Deloitte’s adjudication will ensure the voting process’s and the resulting list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants’ integrity and authenticity.
