The Traders Hotel in Yangon has been rebranded as the Sule Shangri-La, Yangon

After a comprehensive two-and-a-half-year renovation, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has rebranded the Traders Hotel, Yangon in Myanmar to the Sule Shangri-La, Yangon.

Situated on Sule Pagoda Road near its 2,000-year-old namesake, the 484-room hotel has been a prominent landmark in the city’s central business district since 1996, remaining a popular hub for business gatherings.

While the building’s exterior is modern, the lobby of the Sule Shangri-La, Yangon evokes a sense of a bygone colonial era with its white columns and grand staircase leading to an open balcony. Burmese vases, wood carvings, and commissioned artwork by local artists such as Ba Khine and Hla Phone Aung decorate the public areas, including the café, conference rooms, and suites.

The hotel’s revitalized restaurants and lounges provide a range of dining experiences. Summer Palace, Shangri-La’s signature Chinese restaurant, features six private dining rooms and specializes in Cantonese dim sum and authentic Chinese cuisine. Cafe Sule presents international flavors and Asian favorites, while the Peacock Lounge serves as a relaxed meeting place for executives.

Spread across three levels, the meeting spaces at Sule Shangri-La, Yangon, frequently hosting delegations and dignitaries, have been refurbished in a modern style with gold accents.

The hotel’s 484 remodeled guestrooms feature expansive picture windows offering views of the city, river, or Shwedagon Pagoda. Amenities include flat-screen televisions, complimentary Wi-Fi, 24-hour room service, and marble bathrooms.

Located on the 21st floor, the new Horizon Club Lounge offers an exclusive retreat with panoramic views of the Shwedagon Pagoda. Expanded to over 490 square meters, the lounge now provides ample seating, two private meeting rooms, and a range of benefits for discerning travelers.

Horizon Club privileges include personalized check-in and late check-out, complimentary all-day beverages and refreshments, a dedicated concierge, and Wi-Fi access. Guests staying on the Horizon Club floors (levels 18 to 22) also enjoy complimentary breakfast, in-room wine and snacks upon arrival, suit pressing, and daily fruits.

“It’s thrilling to witness the luxurious enhancements of the hotel and introduce Shangri-La’s signature touches in such a sought-after destination,” said Philip Couvaras, Area General Manager of Sule Shangri-La, Yangon. “We aim to consistently provide our guests with novel and personalized experiences and immerse visitors in the local culture.”
