The SingaMask, designed and manufactured in Singapore by SmartComm World, is a reusable face mask boasting N95-level efficacy and the ability to be washed up to 365 times.
SmartComm World highlights three key features of this innovative mask:
Versatility
The SingaMask can be worn dry, like traditional masks, or wet.
Durability
Repeated washing enhances the mask’s comfort and fit while improving airflow. The company emphasizes that the integrated Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) filter, sandwiched between the inner and outer layers, maintains its effectiveness even after numerous washes.
PTFE, known for its flexibility, water resistance, and high melting point, forms a non-stick barrier. The ultra-thin PTFE film used in the SingaMask is air-permeable, allowing for breathability while effectively filtering out nanoparticles without generating static electricity.
Adjustability
Available in four sizes, the SingaMask offers a customizable fit. Two spring-loaded toggle clasps ensure secure fastening of the loops, which are designed to sit comfortably at the back of the head instead of around the ears.
Beyond these features, the SingaMask 365 boasts a 99.9% bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE).

Toon Wee, CEO of SmartComm World and co-designer of the SingaMask, recounted the mask’s development through multiple iterations. The initial concept arose in March 2020, during a period of panic buying and hoarding of masks in Singapore. “Disposable masks are designed to be worn for short periods of time and had to be changed frequently,” Wee explained.
Recognizing the potential longevity of the pandemic, the team at SmartComm World foresaw a global need for a more practical and sustainable alternative to disposable masks. They also anticipated potential supply chain disruptions and the possibility of governments nationalizing essential mask-making materials.
The team’s focus was clear: design a durable, comfortable, and stylish mask for everyday use, offering protection comparable to an N95 mask. “We decided that we wanted to make a mask that was specifically designed for daily use, for street wear, riding a bicycle or motorbike and not to focus on healthcare workers,” Wee said. “It had to be tough, comfortable, easy to wear, look great while offering a very high level of protection, equivalent to N95. Our mask is designed to be able to withstand blood, alcohol sprays and can be used in the rain as well during the haze season.”
Wee envisions releasing new SingaMask designs in collections, mirroring the fashion industry’s seasonal approach. Each collection will feature a limited quantity of masks, aligning with the concept of streetwear rather than mass production. The color palettes for each season will draw inspiration from the popular K-Pop group BTS.
The upcoming SingaMask 500, set to launch with the winter collection around November 2020, promises even greater reusability with up to 500 washes. Preorders for the SingaMask 500 are currently being accepted.
Wee clarified that corporate and government orders are treated as separate projects outside the collection series.
The SingaMask’s popularity is evident in its strong sales, prompting an expansion of manufacturing to Indonesia to meet the growing demand. “All products will eventually go through the Singapore office for quality checks and packing,” Wee noted.
