Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa is launching its first-ever Amara Heritage Trail. This tour allows guests to explore the resort’s hidden natural surroundings, conservation efforts, and historical significance.

The resort sits on ten acres of land that once housed British military barracks and air raid shelters built between 1897 and 1905 and later renovated in the 1920s. The resort’s owner, Albert Teo, collaborated with renowned Japanese architect Miyake Masaki to transform these structures into suites while carefully maintaining their historical features and the natural surroundings.
“We are honored and privileged to have our resort located on this historically significant site. We are not only a part of history but are also delighted to share this heritage with our guests, particularly the younger generation who will have the chance to learn about and appreciate Singapore’s journey," remarked Dawn Teo, Senior VP of Amara Hotels & Resorts.
The Amara Heritage Trail, a collaborative effort between Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa and the Singapore Tourism Board, takes an hour to complete on foot. Starting at the resort’s main lobby, participants are guided on a walking tour of historical buildings. Along the way, guests are encouraged to locate a specific artifact (a vintage shoe cleaner), visualize the experience of seeking refuge in a World War II air raid shelter, and identify common herbs and spices used in modern-day local dishes, including the one that attracted the British to Southeast Asia in the 19th century.

A special colonial set menu (S$38++ for two) has been curated to complement the launch of the Amara Heritage Trail. Guests can sample classic dishes enjoyed by British soldiers during Singapore’s time as a British crown colony.
