Spotify has unveiled its Year in Music, analyzing data from 50 million users and over 7 billion hours of music to determine 2014’s top songs and artists.

UK artist Ed Sheeran leads as the most streamed artist globally, with over 860 million streams on Spotify. His album, released in June to critical acclaim, also achieved the highest number of streams, exceeding 430 million.

In Singapore, Jay Chou maintains his position as the most streamed Asian artist for the second consecutive year. Maroon 5 secures second place, while Ed Sheeran claims the third spot.

Within the Asian artist category, Chou takes the lead, followed by Taiwanese band Mayday in second place and Singaporean artist JJ Lin in third.

Rude by Magic! is the most played track in Singapore this year, followed by John Legend’s All of Me and OneRepublic’s Counting Stars. Pharrell Williams’ Happy achieved global popularity, surpassing 260 million plays in 2014.

Sunita Kaur, Spotify’s Managing Director for Asia, highlighted the year’s diverse musical landscape, with both Asian and international artists achieving popularity. She emphasized Year in Music as an opportunity for fans to revisit their favorite tracks and explore new music.

Steve Savoca, Spotify’s Head of Content, highlighted the platform’s role in connecting artists with new audiences, noting that over fifty million music fans listened to more than 7 billion hours of music on Spotify in 2014.

Spotify users can access spotify.com/2014 to explore global and local music trends, and create a personalized “Year in Music” summary to share on social media.
