The MIT Technology Review’s EmTech Singapore event focuses on the intersection of technology, business, and society. It showcases significant technologies and explores their potential to transform businesses and shape the global economy. Scheduled for January 27-28, 2015, at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, the event is now open for registration.
The main themes for EmTech Singapore 2015 are:
Digital Life
Discussions will cover the Internet of Things (IoT) as a revolutionary advancement, along with new computing platforms and eras. Additional topics include wearable technology’s forefront innovations, robotics expanding beyond factories, and innovative uses for drones in areas like agriculture and healthcare.
Featured speakers in this session include Atlassian Co-founder and Co-CEO Scott Farquhar; 2Mar Robotics CEO and Robogals Founder Marita Cheng; Novaquark Founder and President Jean-Christophe Baillie; and Misfit Wearables Co-Founder Sonny Vu.
Healthcare & Life Sciences
Sessions on Healthcare & Life Sciences will delve into breakthroughs in neuro-engineering, the future of genomics, and medical technology innovations that promise more affordable, efficient, and timely patient care.
Speakers include Daniela Schiller, Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at Mount Sinai Hospital; Robert Nicol, Director of Sequencing Operations at The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard; and Alex Dickinson, Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at Illumina.
Space 3.0
Speakers will explore the potential impact of satellite technology on daily life, the feasibility of space tourism in the near future, and the commercial opportunities presented by Space 3.0.
This session features speakers like Steve Isakowitz, President of Virgin Galactic; Chris Boshuize, Co-Founder and CTO of Planet Labs Inc; Bonnie Dunbar, Director of the UH STEM Center at the University of Houston; and Kay Soon Low, Director of the Satellite Research Centre at Nanyang Technological University.
Sustainable Innovations
EmTech Singapore 2015 will highlight how sustainable innovations are tackling real-world problems. This includes meeting the evolving demands for renewable and low-carbon technologies, utilizing emerging technologies to feed a growing global population, and developing next-generation urban environments and smart cities.
Speakers for Sustainable Innovations include Leslie Dewan, Co-founder & Chief Science Officer of Transatomic Power; Carlo Ratti, Director of the SENSEable City Laboratory at MIT; and Daniel Hastings, CEO and Director of the Singapore MIT Alliance for Research and Technology.
In conjunction with the EmTech conference, the search is on for 10 regional Innovators Under 35 who embody the spirit of innovation in technology and business. Since 1999, the MIT Technology Review’s Innovators Under 35 competition has recognized individuals like Facebookâs Mark Zuckerberg, JB Straubel of Tesla, Silicon Valley investor Marc Andreessen, and Nobel laureate Konstantin Novoselov.
Nominations close on September 19, 2014. Young researchers and entrepreneurs developing creative and inspiring technology-driven solutions to global challenges are encouraged to apply. The 10 honorees are acknowledged not just for their research advancements but also for their potential societal impact and leadership in shaping the future of technology.
