The Food&HotelAsia (FHA) and ProWine Asia (PWA) trade shows are predicted to draw tens of thousands of attendees during their joint four-day run in Singapore, from April 24th to 27th.

This year marks the largest event yet. Visitors can explore exhibits from over 3,500 international food, beverage, and hospitality exhibitors throughout 120,000 sq m at FHA. In addition, PWA 2018 features 300 international wine and spirits exhibitors across 7,500 sq m. Dr. Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, attended the opening ceremony as the Guest-of-Honour for both events.

FHA, Singapore’s longest-running and Asia’s most extensive international food and hospitality trade event, has dramatically expanded since its inception. Starting from modest beginnings in a hotel parking lot in 1978, it now spans two venues at Singapore Expo and Suntec Singapore. Today, FHA hosts the largest gathering the industry has ever seen. Participants can attend the FHA International Conference’s four educational tracks and 50 complimentary workshops and events held across both venues. These offerings provide opportunities for business networking, skills development, and industry discussions.

Rodolphe Lameyse, Project Director of Food & Hospitality at UBM (the organizer of FHA and co-organizer of PWA), remarked on the event’s significance. He stated, “This edition of FHA - [40 Years] - is truly special for us. The impressive growth in exhibition space, the ongoing support of our dedicated exhibitors, and the increasing interest from attendees are all testaments to FHA’s transformative journey over the past four decades. Today, the industry recognizes us for consistently being at the forefront of innovation.”

Lameyse added, “FHA is an event that engages all six senses – taste, sight, touch, smell, sound, and lastly, business sense. I’m thrilled to welcome everyone to join us at Expo and Suntec to celebrate this momentous 40th anniversary. Together, let’s embark on a journey that stimulates our senses and unveils the world’s finest flavors and groundbreaking innovations shaping the future of food and hospitality.”

Sixty-one local and international delegations are attending FHA, highlighting its standing as the region’s premier industry event. Trade professionals attending FHA2018 have reported an expected sourcing budget of US$11 billion*.

FHA, in partnership with Euromonitor International, also introduced “Smart Innovations Transforming the Food and Hospitality Landscape by 2020,” an industry white paper. The report offers insights into significant disruptors influencing the industry, such as the megatrends of developed market consumers opting for experiences over everyday commodities and their growing preference for businesses aligned with their ethical values.

Event highlights include:

Singapore Expo

  • Ticketing, deposits, and card storage solutions to minimize reservation “no-shows” at restaurants (ResDiary, Hall 4)
  • Nitro cold brew coffee served directly from the bottle (Cool Cool Beverage, Hall 2)

Suntec Singapore

  • Automated cooking systems that reproduce the “wok hei” of traditional Cantonese stir-fry (IKC, Level 4)

FHA2018 showcases digital innovations poised to transform consumer dining and shopping experiences. One example is Restaurant 3.0 by Enterprise Singapore in Suntec. This showcase presents futuristic dining concepts covering the entire consumer journey, from farm to processing, production, and ultimately, table service.

Enterprise Singapore and the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) launched the SMF SMART App at the Singapore Pavilion at Expo. This application streamlines online orders for international buyers and incorporates product traceability and authentication features, simplifying the export process for food manufacturers.

Rising stars and top talent at FHA2018 are participating in a series of renowned competitions, including the first-ever Asian Gelato Cup, the Barista Super Duo Challenge, the Latte Art Showdown, and the Asian Pastry Week events. These events encompass the Asian Pastry Cup, the new Valrhona C3 (Chocolate Chef Competition), the Global Star Chefs Pastry Show, and the FHA Culinary Challenge (FCC) series. Occurring every four years, the National Team Challenge, a part of FCC, returns to FHA, providing a platform for elite national chefs to vie for the “Best National Team Award.” The top three national teams will advance to the “Battle of the Lion” competition held on the final day of FCC.
