Facebook recently unveiled its “Year in Review” for 2015, featuring a dedicated website and video.

The company highlighted major global conversations, with the US presidential election taking the lead. This was followed by discussions surrounding the November 13 Paris attacks, the Syrian civil war and resulting refugee crisis, the Nepal earthquakes, and the Greek debt crisis.

On the entertainment front, “Game of Thrones” reigned supreme as the most popular TV show, while “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” dominated movie discussions globally. The highly anticipated Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight in May propelled both athletes to the forefront of sports conversations.

Facebook also announced “Clash of Kings,” an RTS RPG multiplayer war game by ELEX, as its “Game of the Year.” The game boasts over 70 million players across web and mobile platforms.

Editor’s note: It’s important to note that the country-specific lists, presented in local languages, shouldn’t be directly compared to the English lists. These lists reflect the perspectives of local language speakers, primarily those residing in the country, whereas the English lists encompass a global English-speaking audience. For instance, the Taiwan list is in traditional Chinese, spoken predominantly in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

*Methodology

Facebook’s Year in Review lists (excluding New Sticker Packs and Places) were determined by analyzing the frequency of topic mentions in Facebook posts between January 1 and December 1, 2015. The data was aggregated and anonymized to ensure user privacy. This analysis provided a snapshot of the most discussed subjects on the platform throughout the year. To curate the Top New Sticker Packs list, Facebook examined all sticker packs launched in 2015 and ranked them based on the average daily sends. Sticker Pack lists were not incorporated in this blog post.
