Hong Kong offers a winter wonderland experience

With temperatures dipping below 15°C, December is an ideal time for a winter escape to Hong Kong. The ongoing 2015 Hong Kong WinterFest offers a variety of attractions and experiences for visitors.

A short walk from the Observation Wheel, where visitors can enjoy a 15-minute ride with panoramic views of Victoria Harbour and the Hong Kong skyline from luxurious gondolas, stands a dazzling, jewellery-inspired Serpenti light art installation in Statue Square, Central. This installation is a collaboration between the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and BVLGARI.

For a different viewpoint of the iconic Victoria Harbour, Victoria Peak, and the city’s skyscrapers, a Star Ferry ride comes highly recommended. Ranked as one of TripAdvisor’s Top 10 Must-See Destinations in Hong Kong, the ferry offers well-timed passengers a unique perspective of the 8 pm Symphony of Lights show. This spectacle features a 13-minute, musically synchronized display of lights from 44 buildings surrounding the harbor.

In celebration of Disney’s 10th anniversary, Harbour City has partnered with Hong Kong Disneyland to transform the Ocean Terminal Forecourt into a captivating Happily Ever After Christmas Avenue. This festive display features a Christmas tree and enchanting holiday window displays.

A short distance away, 1881 Heritage, the former headquarters of the Hong Kong Marine Police, awaits. The Grand Piazza has been transformed into a magnificent, 13-meter-high ice palace, resembling a gothic cathedral, complete with an ice-skating rink.

As the year draws to a close, visitors can ring in the new year at the New Year Countdown Celebrations on December 31, 2015. The festivities culminate with a pyromusical show and fireworks display at midnight. Prime viewing locations include the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Open Piazza, Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade, New Central Harbourfront, the promenade at the Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai, and the areas surrounding Central Piers No. 9 and 10.
