Wharf Hotels is pleased to announce the launch of The Murray, Hong Kong, a new Niccolo Hotel. This addition represents the group’s newest flagship Niccolo property and joins their luxury contemporary chic collection.

The Murray boasts a rich history, standing as one of eight historic landmarks protected by the Conserving Central initiative, launched by the Hong Kong government in 2013. Situated in the city’s vibrant Central district, the building has been recognized for its pioneering approach to sustainability throughout its nearly 50 years. Its innovative energy-efficient design, featuring deeply recessed square windows, continues to garner acclaim today. These distinctive windows have been expanded, now framing stunning views of the cityscape and surrounding gardens.

The hotel comprises 336 elegant suites and guestrooms spread across 25 floors, with over 75% offering a spacious 50 square meters or more. The interiors are adorned with natural materials such as fabrics, stone, leather, and plush textiles, creating a refined and stylish sanctuary for guests.

Dr. Jennifer Cronin, President of Wharf Hotels, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Niccolo Hotels was introduced as a fresh concept in luxury hospitality with the opening of Niccolo Chengdu three years ago. It swiftly became a leading hotel in the city, followed by Niccolo Chongqing in September 2017, which is also establishing itself as a premier sky hotel*. The brand’s expansion will continue with the launch of sky hotels in Changsha and Suzhou within the next two years.

“As a Hong Kong-based hospitality group, we are incredibly proud to unveil our flagship Niccolo property where the brand first began. We are thrilled to build upon the legacy of this iconic city landmark and shape it into a new destination for unparalleled luxury hotel experiences. Under the guidance of Duncan Palmer, Managing Director, The Murray is poised to become one of the world’s finest hotels, a source of immense pride for Hong Kong.”

For culinary enthusiasts, The Murray offers five distinct dining and bar experiences, each overseen by a team of world-renowned chefs and mixologists. The hotel features The Tai Pan, a contemporary European restaurant; the refined Garden Lounge; Murray Lane, a Wall Street-inspired bar; the rooftop bar and restaurant, Popinjays; and the Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant, Guo Fu Lou.

Furthering its commitment to exceptional events, The Murray boasts over 1,900 square meters of sophisticated meeting and event spaces, ideal for both corporate functions and social gatherings. The Niccolo Room, located on the 25th floor, is a sought-after venue for banquets and conferences, accommodating up to 240 guests for seated events and 350 for receptions. Additionally, the hotel features six smaller boardrooms, each bathed in natural light.

Foster + Partners, the renowned architectural firm, preserved the building’s unique character during its transformation, retaining signature elements such as the original driveway that encircles the structure beneath its three-story arches. This singular space has been reimagined as The Arches, a semi-alfresco venue with a capacity of 350 guests. Overlooking Hong Kong Park, the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens, and St John’s Cathedral, The Arches promises to be a stylish backdrop for a variety of events, including fashion shows, luxury automotive displays, exhibitions, cocktail parties, and social gatherings.
