GrabFood, a new on-demand food delivery service currently in its testing phase, represents Grab’s latest venture into the world of digital services.
Numerous Singaporean eateries, including established names like McDonald’s and Yum Cha, along with local favorites like A Poke Theory and Hock Lam Beef Noodles, have already joined the platform. GrabFood promises a diverse menu, encompassing local and international dishes, halal and non-halal options, and a variety of desserts.
Grab also shared its ambition to become an indispensable everyday app for Southeast Asian consumers, offering essential services such as transportation, food, delivery, and payments.
This vision stems from a survey Grab conducted after reaching a billion rides in Southeast Asia. The majority of the 500 participants, representing Southeast Asian consumers, expressed a desire for a single, comprehensive app catering to their daily needs.
To illustrate this future of a Grab-enabled smart city, the company released a video demonstrating how they are developing an interconnected ecosystem of services designed to simplify daily life.
“Our goal is to build an everyday app encompassing transport, food and package deliveries, and mobile payments. Grab is dedicated to creating a seamless experience that benefits our customers by offering these complementary services within a single platform. Imagine waking up and being able to plan your entire journey using different transport options with a single tap, shop and receive instant discounts, and have your favorite meals and purchases delivered directly to your doorstep – all managed through one mobile wallet within a single app. This is the future we are striving to create, and we are eager to collaborate with industry partners and governments to innovate and make this vision a reality,” explained Lim Kell Jay, Head of Grab Singapore.
“The launch of GrabFood in Singapore is a significant step toward becoming the go-to everyday app for consumers. This service will connect a wider range of dining options with more consumers while providing local merchants and delivery partners with additional income opportunities. We aim to cater to every taste and preference with GrabFood, creating a space for food vendors to establish an online presence and reach a broader customer base. We recognize the immense potential in helping vendors here gain additional benefits and experience increased orders through GrabFood. Our objective is to foster this mutually beneficial ecosystem here in Singapore," added James Ong, Head of GrabFood Singapore.
Singapore’s food delivery market is estimated to be worth between S$250-300 million, with approximately 4,000 restaurants and 12,000 hawker stalls not yet utilizing food delivery apps. GrabFood aims to bridge this gap by bringing more food vendors online, offering consumers a wider variety of cuisines and local favorites, and generating more revenue streams for merchants.
GrabFood offers several consumer incentives:
No minimum order requirement
Scheduled orders – Meals can be ordered up to five days in advance, with order tracking available in the app on the delivery day.
Rewards – Every GrabFood order earns GrabRewards points. Consumers receive five GrabRewards points for every dollar spent, redeemable for rides or discounts within the GrabRewards catalog (S$1 = 5 GrabRewards points).
Delivery partners can also benefit from supplementary income opportunities:
Earn and cash out anytime
Delivery partners have the flexibility to work whenever they choose without pre-booking delivery slots. Daily earnings are available for cash out on the same day.
Deliver with peace of mind
All delivery partners are covered by on-the-job insurance at no extra cost. Grab provides personal accident insurance for all its delivery partners.
“The GrabFood app is user-friendly and allows me to cash out my earnings on the same day. Knowing that Grab offers free personal accident insurance to all delivery partners gives me peace of mind while working. I am excited to serve GrabFood customers across the island," said Abdullah Yusoff, a GrabFood delivery partner.
For merchant-partners, Grab offers more than just a food delivery service. It presents an opportunity to expand their business using Grab’s payment technology and platform. Benefits include:
Improved revenue and mindshare for merchants
With a user base of over 95 million across Southeast Asia, merchant-partners can access Grab’s extensive consumer and corporate customer network. They can also leverage promotional campaigns and the region’s largest loyalty program, GrabRewards, to enhance their brand visibility.
Go cashless
Grab emphasizes that cash is an inefficient and time-consuming payment method for any business. Merchants can utilize Grab’s cashless payment service, GrabPay, with minimal initial investment. Grab asserts that GrabPay is currently one of the most popular mobile wallets among consumers.
Joey Lee, Founder of A Poke Theory, shared his experience: “We were among the earliest adopters of GrabPay when it was introduced in Singapore last year, and it has been a positive experience. Grab’s app is user-friendly, allowing us to leverage its large user base and rewards platform, which is incredibly beneficial for SMEs like ours. Integrating GrabFood to further expand our business felt like a natural progression, and we are eager to witness its value.”
“We have collaborated with Grab on all their platforms, from GrabPay to GrabRewards, and now GrabFood. This partnership has provided access to Grab’s vast user base, and GrabRewards has contributed to a rise in repeat customers. Joining Grab’s platform has proven incredibly valuable, and we are excited to serve even more customers from their homes with GrabFood,” said Johnny Mayani, President & CEO of Wing Zone Asia Pacific.
