Garmin International has released the fēnix 5, fēnix 5S, and fēnix 5X multisport GPS watches. These wearables are designed for adventurers of all sizes.
Each fēnix 5 model offers 24/7 wearability, extended battery life, daily activity tracking*, Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate technology, and various connected features**. At 47mm, the fēnix 5 is more compact than past models like the fēnix 3HR, while still providing extensive multisport features. The fēnix 5S is lighter, sleeker, and smaller than earlier models, making it ideal for smaller wrists without compromising multisport functionality. The fēnix 5X features preloaded wrist-based mapping.
The fēnix 5S received recognition as a CES 2017 Innovation Awards Honoree in the wearable technologies category. Products considered for this prestigious program are reviewed by a panel of independent industrial designers, engineers, and trade media members. This panel recognizes outstanding design and engineering in cutting-edge consumer electronics across 28 product categories.
“Garmin understands that athletes and adventurers come in different sizes. That’s why we designed the fēnix 5 watch series to fit every wrist and every workout,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin VP of worldwide sales. “This is the first time Garmin has created a variety of sizes for one product. Now users don’t have to choose between getting the features they want and wearing a watch that fits.”
All new fēnix 5 models are available in various colors and finishes, with additional accessory bands sold separately. This makes the new QuickFit bands a valuable feature. Users can easily switch between leather, metal, or silicone watch bands without tools in a matter of seconds.
The first fēnix designed with female adventurers in mind, the fēnix 5S is a sleek and compact watch. At 42mm, it’s comfortable for smaller wrists without sacrificing any multisport functionality. The fēnix 5S is available in silver with a white, turquoise, or black silicone band and a mineral glass lens. The fēnix 5S Sapphire features a scratch-resistant sapphire lens and is available in black with a black band, champagne with a water-resistant gray suede band, or champagne with a metal band. The fēnix 5S Sapphire units also include an additional silicone QuickFit band.
The fēnix 5X, measuring at 51mm, comes preloaded with TOPO US mapping, routable cycling maps, and other navigation features like Round Trip Run and Round Trip Ride. With these features, users can input their desired running or riding distance, and the watch will suggest appropriate courses. The fēnix 5X also offers users at-a-glance guidance. During an activity, easy-to-read guidance cues for upcoming turns appear as banners on the watch, ensuring users are always aware of their route. Additionally, fēnix 5X users can utilize the Around Me map mode to view nearby points of interest, waypoints, and other map objects, enhancing their awareness of their surroundings. Users can configure their fēnix 5X to display data overlays on mapping screens and highlight key information without needing to switch screens during an activity. The fēnix 5X is available with a scratch-resistant sapphire lens.
All new fēnix 5 models are preloaded with a comprehensive set of multisport tools for activities like running, hiking, swimming, and biking. These features have made the fēnix line one of Garmin’s top-selling wearables. Whether on an adventure or at the gym, Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate technology provides users with 24/7 heart rate monitoring, eliminating the need for a chest strap. In addition to the wide array of sport profiles, all three fēnix 5 models include daily activity tracking, enabling users to wear their fēnix as both a timepiece and a training tool. Built-in navigation features include a three-axis compass, gyroscope, barometric altimeter, and GPS and GLONASS support for tracking in challenging environments. Users can monitor their training stats with a performance widget that displays training status, training load, and more.
Beyond their multisport capabilities, the fēnix 5, 5S, and 5X offer various connected features. When synced with a compatible smartphone, users can receive call, text, and email notifications directly on their wrists. All fēnix 5 models are Connect IQ compatible, allowing users to personalize their watches with apps, widgets, data fields, and watch faces. Taking customization further, fēnix 5 watches are compatible with the Face It app, enabling users to set their favorite photo as their watch face. Sapphire models are Wi-Fi enabled, letting users connect to their home network for automatic uploads to Garmin Connect when in range.
Every new fēnix 5 model is water-resistant up to 100m*** and built to withstand the elements with a stainless steel bezel, buttons, and rear case:
- The fēnix 5 has a battery life of up to two weeks in smartwatch mode and 24 hours in GPS mode.

Users can extend battery life further with the UltraTrac power saver mode.
