To create a healthier planet and promote sustainability, Avani Hotels has introduced a variety of eco-friendly and wellness-focused programs.
Avani’s flagship hotels in Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos are increasing their efforts to support nearby communities. They are accomplishing this by showcasing regional specialties and advocating for a decrease in reliance on imported goods. They have also implemented zero-waste programs, which include composting systems to handle all organic waste and on-site organic gardens to encourage self-sufficiency.
Avani Pattaya Resort
Avani Pattaya Resort is home to the first hydroponic farm in this coastal city. The hydroponic farm produces 40% of the fresh ingredients used daily at Avani Pattaya. The remaining produce benefits the Pattaya community. The farm currently cultivates more than 22,000 plants, including various greens like microgreens, red and green oak lettuce, cos, arugula, Swiss chard, and Chinese kale.
Free-range chickens were recently introduced to the farm and provide fresh eggs for breakfast each morning.
The staff at Avani Pattaya is working to eliminate single-use plastics and strengthen their sustainability efforts by building a compost area to reduce landfill waste. Furthermore, they are substituting refillable, sealed containers for single-use plastic bottles for bathroom amenities.
Guests can participate in a farm tour to understand better the process of obtaining farm-to-table organic produce used in local cuisine. Afterward, aspiring chefs can attend a cooking class and create a tasty meal or learn how to cultivate their hydroponic gardens at home.
Avani+ Hua Hin Resort
Avani+ Hua Hin Resort is dedicated to using locally sourced ingredients, with 90% of the ingredients used in the resort’s restaurants coming from local suppliers. The resort aims to support the local economy and minimize its environmental impact by collaborating closely with Thai farmers and suppliers to obtain fresh, locally grown ingredients.
In addition, Avani+ Hua Hin Resort has partnered with businesses in Thailand that have ethical and completely sustainable practices. This includes a free-range chicken farm that provides organic eggs in biodegradable packaging, producers of artisanal products that do not use artificial colors or flavors, and a small organic vegetable farm that supplies fresh herbs.
Avani+ Samui Resort
On the Thai island of Koh Samui, Avani+ Samui Resort welcomes visitors to KoKo, its new wellness-focused, plant-based café. KoKo strives to enhance personal well-being by offering a sustainable dining experience that minimizes the use of animal products.
KoKo offers a variety of dishes, including nutritious lunch bowls, customizable salads, plant-based protein burgers, and gluten-free and vegan cakes, all while maintaining a fully sustainable supply chain. KoKo chefs use only plant-based ingredients, many of which are sourced from the on-site garden and a nearby coconut plantation. This results in locally-sourced meals such as the cocoa bowl and beetroot sandwich.
FCC Angkor by Avani
In Cambodia, Scribe Bar at FCC Angkor has launched a zero-waste cocktail menu where ingredients are reused, recycled, and upcycled to minimize waste. For example, the Colonial Fare cocktail uses locally-sourced pineapples as its primary ingredient. While the pineapple is juiced for the cocktail, the pulp is dehydrated and reused as a garnish or as an ingredient in another cocktail.
All organic waste is composted and used as fertilizer in the hotel’s garden, which cultivates plants for the restaurant and bar, such as lemongrass, pandan, and krasang teap. Krasang teap is an essential component of beef lok lak, Cambodia’s national dish, served at the property’s Mansion restaurant.
Avani+ Luang Prabang
The new rooftop garden at Avani+ Luang Prabang Hotel in Laos offers stunning views of this UNESCO Heritage town and sits atop a Buddhist temple built in 1548. A variety of organic fruits and vegetables, including bananas, papayas, cherry tomatoes, and cabbage, as well as herbs like coriander and chilies, thrive on the 140-square-meter rooftop.
Head Chef Waran’s childhood memories of his mother gathering fresh vegetables for daily family meals served as inspiration for the garden. Guests are invited to learn about planting and growing various types of produce and to master the fundamentals of Lao cuisine.
