Epson introduces a new business printer capable of printing up to 75,000 pages in a single run

Epson helps businesses reduce printing expenses with its Replaceable Ink Pack System (RIPS). RIPS utilizes high-capacity ink packs that hold significantly more ink than traditional cartridges. This system combines the convenience of cartridges with the high-volume output of ink tanks.

The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-R8591 is the first printer in Southeast Asia to offer this technology. Using a complete set of ink packs, the WF-R8591 can print approximately 75,000 pages* before replacements are needed. This minimizes both running costs and downtime due to less frequent supply replacements.

“The Epson RIPS is a major advancement in business printing in recent years,” states Siew Jin Kiat, Epson Southeast Asia’s Regional General Manager for Printer and Visual Products Division. “While the concept of ink packs may seem straightforward, the technology behind it is unique to Epson. Only our new Micro Piezo-based PrecisionCore print heads possess the performance and reliability to leverage RIPS’ high-volume capabilities.”

Here are some key features of the WF-R8591:

  • Epson RIPS: The WF-R8591’s four ink packs can print the equivalent of about 40 standard toner cartridges**, significantly reducing environmental impact. Additionally, the inkjet technology only requires ink and a waste ink box, eliminating the need for a drum, transfer unit, and fuser unit typically found in laser printers, further minimizing costs.

  • Epson PrecisionCore print head: This technology is crucial for RIPS. The WF-R8591 utilizes PrecisionCore print heads, a new generation of Epson’s proprietary Micro Piezo piezoelectric print heads. Found in all Epson inkjet printers, Micro Piezo print heads use electric pulses instead of heat to propel ink, making them highly durable. This allows for variable dot sizes, producing sharp details and smooth gradations in documents and photos. The WF-R8591’s print head enables high-speed printing of up to 24 images per minute (ipm) at a default resolution of 600 x 600 dpi.

  • Flexible paper handling: The WF-R8591 allows for additional paper cassettes to increase input capacity up to 1,831 sheets. Different paper sizes and types can be loaded in separate cassettes for automatic selection based on document needs. An optional cabinet provides storage for extra paper and consumables.

  • DURABrite Pro pigment inks: Developed for business use, this new ink set offers higher pigment concentration compared to conventional pigment inks, resulting in vibrant black and color prints with sharp graphs and images even on plain paper. The ink also resists curling. Like DURABrite Ultra ink, it’s water-, smudge-, and fade-resistant.

  • Connectivity: Business-oriented connectivity options include USB 2.0, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Wi-Fi Direct. Wi-Fi Direct allows up to four devices to connect directly to the printer without a router. Network settings can be managed remotely through the EpsonNet Config Web interface.

  • Epson Connect: When connected to a network, the WF-R8591 supports Epson Connect, a suite of mobile printing solutions including Epson iPrint, Epson Email Print, Remote Print Driver, and Scan to Cloud. It also supports third-party solutions like Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print. Epson iPrint, part of Epson Connect, enables users to print from and scan directly to their smart devices or online cloud storage.

* In accordance with ISO 24711/24712. Actual yields may differ due to factors such as images printed, settings, temperature, and humidity. Yields may be reduced with infrequent printing or using predominantly one color. Some ink remains in cartridges after the “replace cartridge” signal. Initial cartridge ink is partly used for printer priming. Ink is used for both printing and print head maintenance. All inks are used for black and color printing.
