Digi Telecommunications (Digi) launched its 4G LTE service in Johor Bahru today. This launch is part of Digi’s plan to quickly expand its LTE network across Malaysia. The company recently launched 4G LTE in Sabah, Sarawak, and the Klang Valley, with plans to expand to more areas soon.
YB Datuk Ir Haji Hasni Bin Haji Mohammad, Chairman of the Johor Executive Council for Public Works, Rural and Regional Development, stated that the state government supports Digi’s goal of providing fair and inexpensive access to the newest 4G LTE services.
“Having reliable, high-speed internet access allows communities to take advantage of educational and job opportunities. This access creates new possibilities for learning and conducting business, potentially leading to sustainable growth in the internet economy for communities across the state. We appreciate Digi’s efforts in introducing consistent, high-speed internet services that will help us achieve greater digital inclusion throughout the state," he commented.
Loh Keh Jiat, Digi’s Chief Sales Officer, said, “We remain dedicated to making mobile internet connectivity accessible to all Malaysians. Our priority is to make sure every customer, whether new to the internet or experienced users, has access to quality, relevant, and affordable internet services. Our customers can enjoy LTE through a variety of affordable smartphone bundles and innovative digital service offerings tailored to different usage patterns."
Digi’s Chief Network Officer, Kesavan Sivabalan, explained that Digi’s 4G LTE network allows customers to enjoy faster HD video and music streaming, smoother video calls, and quicker app downloads and social media sharing. “By the end of 2015, customers in Johor, Malacca, and Negeri Sembilan will have access to Digi’s LTE services. By then, we will have broadened our LTE coverage to 25%, in addition to our 3G services which cover 92% of the Southern region. We intend to maintain this pace of LTE expansion nationwide, with a strong focus on enhancing network quality to provide all Malaysians with the best possible internet experience,” he added.
Currently, Digi’s 4G LTE services are accessible in Johor Bahru, the Klang Valley, Penang, Kuantan, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Labuan, Kuching, Miri, Bintulu, Kampar, Langkawi, and Port Dickson.
