Creating a Luminous Betty Oil Lamp (Part 3)

Dateline: 21 December 2016

This post picks up where we left off in this series about creating a do-it-yourself oil lamp. Previously, I showed you my version of this project and the supplies I used. Now, I’ll provide a step-by-step guide with photos demonstrating how to construct the wick holder and handle.

This last image shows how easily the lamp can be moved and how effectively it can light up a space like my bathroom. It’s unfortunate that the bathroom light is on in this photo. I know I took pictures with it off, but those were taken back in 2010, and I can’t seem to locate them.

As a final note, these lamps can also be decorative. Try placing a row of them filled with citronella oil along your deck railing to create a peaceful ambiance on a summer night.

This concludes the tutorial on how to create your own “Bright Betty” lamp. You can revisit the first part of this series by clicking this link.
