Bose has introduced noise-masking sleepbuds — wireless earbuds designed to combat common sleep-disrupting noises with a blend of comfortable design and soothing sounds.

masking, not noise cancellation.
These sleepbuds, the most compact product Bose has developed, come equipped with 10 preloaded “sleeptracks.” These tracks are designed to mimic the frequencies of common noises like snoring, neighbors, dogs, and traffic, effectively masking them with calming audio. The sleepbuds also feature newly patented ear tips engineered for a secure yet barely-there fit.
While Bose is known for their QuietComfort noise-canceling headphones, they emphasize that noise-masking is a distinct technology. “Noise-masking is a science,” explains Daniel Lee, Systems Engineer for Bose sleepbuds. “It’s not simply ambient sound or white noise. You can’t replicate its effect by just increasing the volume of relaxing music. In certain situations, it’s even more effective than active noise cancellation — including our own.”
“QuietComfort headphones are great for enhancing focus and productivity during the day, or for enjoying music and calls in loud environments. However, at night, the goal is complete sensory shutdown, and the world naturally becomes quieter. Ironically, this makes even the faintest sounds seem louder. Bedside machines can’t mask it, earplugs can’t block it, and standard earbuds aren’t designed for hours of wear while lying down, especially on your side. This is where Bose sleepbuds excel. If you’ve tried everything without success, or haven’t tried anything out of skepticism, we created these for you.”
“Sleep deprivation is a growing global concern, negatively impacting our lives and well-being,” says Brian Mulcahey, Category Director of Wellness at Bose. “This issue resonates deeply with us. We’ve heard countless requests from customers, colleagues, friends, and family for a product that aids in falling asleep and staying asleep.”
“We took these requests to heart and assembled a remarkable team of experts specializing in noise management, acoustics, psychoacoustics, electronic miniaturization, wireless in-ear headphones, and neurology. This team, representing some of the brightest minds in their respective fields, inspired our entire company. We understand that behind the alarming statistics are real people, and we believe this product has the potential to make a significant difference for many of them.”
Bose sleepbuds come housed in a sleek, brushed aluminum charging case that provides up to 16 hours of battery life. Each bud weighs a mere 1.4 grams and measures slightly over 1 cm in width and height. The exterior features a laser-etched antenna for dependable connectivity with phones or tablets. Internally, the sleepbuds house a rechargeable silver-zinc battery, a miniature transducer, a microcircuit board with flash memory (storing the preloaded noise-masking sounds), and noise-isolating StayHear+ Sleep tips. These soft, pliable tips, acting as a barrier against unwanted noise, are available in three sizes.
Utilizing low-energy Bluetooth technology, Bose sleepbuds are compatible with both iOS and Android devices. They come paired with the Bose Sleep app, allowing for effortless updates, control customization, and preference settings. Users can set morning alarms, choose their preferred sleep track, and adjust the volume to their liking.
