A Beogram 4002 Type 5513 turntable I previously restored in 2018 was returned for a sensor lamp replacement. This turntable had also visited in 2020 for a broken tonearm cartridge mount.
During both prior repairs, the owner opted to retain some original, functioning components, including the sensor lamp, tracking sensor lamp, and output phono muting switch. Since the sensor lamp has now burned out, it will be replaced with a modern Beolover LED assembly.
Beolover’s redesigned LED assembly, with its rigid board, makes for a much-improved installation process. A video demonstrating the replacement procedure, starting with removing the old lamp and installing a guide for the LED board, is available.
Here’s a photo showcasing one of the two leads, ready to be soldered.
And finally, the new assembly is in place.
The keypad button surface still shows wear from as far back as 2018. While the owner previously opted not to address this cosmetic issue, they have now decided to install a Beolover Commander Remote Control and replace the keypad button surface.
Here’s a comparison of the old and new button surfaces.
The improvement is remarkable. The keypad button PCB was transferred to the new button frame.
The button assembly is being left aside for now while the Commander Remote Control is installed. A video detailing the installation process is available at the provided link.
As a Beogram 4004 owner who uses the Commander Remote Control, I highly recommend it for these turntables. The convenience it offers enhances the user experience significantly.
A significant advantage of the Commander Remote Control is its non-invasive installation. It utilizes the Beogram’s existing connectors and mounting points, making it a true plug-and-play solution.
The Beogram 4002 is now under the control of the Commander Remote Control.
Before returning the turntable to its owner, I will install an MMC phono cartridge and conduct listening tests.
