Beogram 4002 Type 5513: Beogram 4002 Bonanza!

We seem to be inundated with Beogram 400x turntable restorations.

Beolover is occupied with multiple projects, and I have two Beogram 4002 Type 5513 projects that I began examining back in February of 2020. In those previous posts, I had sent four Beogram 400x platter motors to Beolover for his restoration expertise. He has since completed those motors, and they are now back in my possession, ready to be used.

After being occupied with a time-consuming Beomaster 4400 restoration, I am prepared to resume work on these two Beogram 4002 Type 5513 turntables.

Let’s begin with the Beogram 4002 that a local owner brought in. Below is a brief overview of its current state.

This is a very attractive Beogram 4002 turntable. There is some wear on the push buttons, a common issue for these turntables due to their age.

It features a well-regarded MMC-20CL phono cartridge, a popular choice among Beogram 400x and 8000 owners.

Looking inside the Beogram case, you’ll notice in the lower left corner that the platter motor has already been extracted. Beolover has refurbished it, and it will be reinstalled in this Beogram shortly.

The plastic spring clips that secure the Beogram platter speed indicator are in excellent condition, which is noteworthy because they are frequently found cracked.

A sticker located on the transformer confirms that this is a Type 5513 Beogram 4002 and displays its serial number.

The tangential arm transport pulley is exhibiting some age cracks. I will be substituting the existing plastic pulley with one made of aluminum.

My next step is to remove the two circuit boards for restoration. This will involve replacing aging capacitors, calibrating the platter speed, installing new speed control trimmers, and various other tasks that I will document in this thread.

I plan to begin working on the two circuit boards tomorrow.
