I recently obtained a Beogram 4002 hood hinge from Florida to use in the installation of a new hood. The first photo shows its condition upon arrival.
A closer look revealed the problem:
The mounting holes on the hood had developed a fracture. This is a common issue caused by the original design choices made by B&O. The use of flat head bolts placed lateral stress on the plexiglass, leading to cracks and eventual breakage.
Fortunately, new hoods with improved bolt design are available, promising better durability. These replica hoods, faithful to the original design, are available for purchase from the Beoparts store in Denmark.
This image showcases the new hood alongside a reproduction aluminum trim for the 4002. The photo captures the trim being centered on the hood using a pair of custom-designed alignment brackets.
After marking the alignment on blue tape, the new hood can be attached to the hinge. Removing the sliding pads beneath the springs provides better lateral movement for the hinges, simplifying bolt installation.
Once the bolts are secured, the pads can be put back in place.
Finally, the aluminum strip is glued to the hood. This completes the installation of a brand new hood for this nearly 50-year-old Beogram 4002!
The hood will soon be returned with a Beolover internal RIAA pre-amp and a Beolover Commander remote control system. What a fantastic upgrade! Truly Beolovely!
