Many Beogram 4002 (5513) turntables, including the one I’m currently restoring, require replacement of the transport lock bushings and cabinet guidance washers. These components are crucial for proper platter and arm alignment. Without them, alignment is unreliable and won’t hold during transport.
This image shows the front transport lock missing its bushing:
Here’s the disassembled mechanism with the lower part of the new bushings installed:
The top part of the bushing is added next:
This two-part design allows installation without removing the entire sub-chassis. A video demonstrating the installation process is available on my Beogram 4002 playlist. The bushings can be purchased from my Shapeways store, two per transport lock.
The reassembled mechanism with the new bushing is shown here:
Next, the cabinet guidance washers were replaced. This picture highlights the left-back washer in its original, damaged state. Often, the acrylic washers crack in half. While standard washers were used as replacements in this case, they don’t provide the lateral guidance necessary for smooth plinth movement.
All five washers were replaced with 3D-printed nylon replicas from Shapeways:
A video detailing this procedure is available on my Beogram 4002 playlist. Five guidance washers, including one beneath the keypad, can be ordered directly from my Shapeways store.
Finally, here’s the right-back washer installed, showcasing the new aluminum carriage pulley in the background:
With these replacements complete, the next stage is platter and sub-chassis alignment, bringing us closer to enjoying this turntable’s restored functionality.
