A Beogram 4002 (Type 5513) turntable from Nebraska arrived for a complete restoration. It was securely shipped in a Beolover container. This is my first look at the unit.
Upon unboxing and bench inspection:
The turntable is in relatively good cosmetic condition. The dust cover is in good shape, though it would benefit from polishing.
The aluminum surfaces show only minor imperfections:
The base has one slightly worn corner on the right side:
while the left side remains in excellent condition:
There is also damage to the back right corner:
The control panel is still in fairly good shape with only minor fingerprints, noticeable only under certain lighting:
Adding a Beolover Commander remote will help preserve the control panel. The Commander allows for complete wireless control, eliminating the need to touch the panel. It also provides an auto-repeat function.
Under the aluminum covers:
This Beogram 4002 has the orange transport lock bushings, known to deteriorate. The remnants of these bushings are visible within the unit.
The turntable appears largely untouched, with no clear signs of prior servicing:
An initial power-up test was conducted. When started, the tonearm moved to the record placement position, and the solenoid activated. The platter motor also started, though it rattled a bit, indicating the typical dried-out bearings. These are all positive signs! This restoration appears to be straightforward. Updates to come!
