AirAsia X, the long-haul, budget-friendly part of the AirAsia Group, is starting flights to Auckland, New Zealand, from Kuala Lumpur. The route will have a stopover on the Gold Coast of Australia and begins on March 22, 2016.
Benyamin Ismail, CEO of AirAsia X, stated that New Zealand is a top-tier destination that the company has always valued. He expressed excitement about returning to the country and offering this new service. This route will give travelers from Asia a convenient way to reach Auckland. Likewise, New Zealanders will have more flight choices for reaching the Gold Coast and other destinations within AirAsia’s extensive Asian network via Kuala Lumpur. Ismail expressed confidence that the airline’s competitive pricing would entice new travelers, increase travel demand, and ultimately benefit tourism across the board.
He emphasized Australia’s significance as a market for AirAsia X, stating that the new Kuala Lumpur-Auckland route via the Gold Coast demonstrates the company’s dedication to expanding its presence and improving flight connections in the area. He based his optimism for the new route’s success on the accomplishments of their other Australian routes.
Ismail stated that AirAsia X aims to continuously expand its destination list for its customers. He believes that the introduction of this route aligns with their turnaround plans and will positively impact their financial results.
Dr. John Subritzky, New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, shared his enthusiasm for AirAsia X’s entry into the New Zealand market. He highlighted that this provides Kiwis with budget-friendly options to visit Asia and Southeast Asia using the airline’s broad network. He expressed hope that the daily flights to Auckland would attract more tourists, benefiting New Zealand’s tourism industry and strengthening economic growth.
With the announcement of this new route, travelers can now journey from Kuala Lumpur to Auckland with a brief layover on the Gold Coast of Australia. Importantly, this layover doesn’t necessitate an Australian visa, and Malaysians can enjoy visa-free travel to New Zealand for a maximum of three months. Travelers also have the flexibility to use the “Fly-Thru” option to seamlessly connect to Auckland from other cities within AirAsia’s extensive flight network or opt for the “Multi-City” choice to spend time on the Gold Coast before continuing to Auckland.
