Acronis, a leading provider of cyber protection and hybrid cloud solutions, has unveiled the 15th-anniversary edition of its renowned personal backup software, Acronis True Image 2019. The software features AI-powered anti-ransomware technology, a standard across all Acronis backup solutions, which successfully thwarted over 200,000 ransomware attacks targeting 150,000 customers in the past year. This protection has potentially saved users from at least US$104 million in damages, based on an average ransom demand of US$522 per attack.
Acronis highlights that Acronis True Image 2019 is the sole home solution that allows users to create complete image backups to both local and cloud storage. It also enables users to clone active system disks on both Windows and Mac machines, giving users greater control over their data protection and management.
According to Acronis President John Zanni, data usage and the threats targeting that data are constantly evolving. To address this, Acronis focuses on providing comprehensive cyber protection by combining proven backup solutions with robust security features. The anniversary edition of Acronis True Image exemplifies this commitment.
An August survey conducted by Acronis on the Google Surveys Publisher Network revealed that Singaporean users perceive human error as the primary cause of data loss. However, they are generally reluctant to pay for data recovery services.
Nearly 29% of respondents attributed data loss primarily to human error, while 28% cited hardware failure as the leading cause.
Although slightly under a third (32.5%) were familiar with ransomware, the majority (65.4%) indicated they would not pay to recover their files, regardless of whether the loss was due to ransomware or other factors. An additional 21% stated they would not pay more than US$50, while only 1.9% expressed a willingness to pay over US$500.
Key findings from the survey:
Over half (53.9%) of respondents do not back up their computers.
42.9% have experienced the loss of important files and photos from their computers or mobile devices.
Acronis True Image 2019 simplifies system restoration by enabling the creation of an all-inclusive recovery tool on an external hard drive. The Acronis Survival Kit, as it’s called, is designed to be a comprehensive solution for emergencies, much like a Swiss army knife. It includes everything needed to restore a system, from boot media and the system partition to all user backups.
The software also simplifies the backup process with new event-driven scheduling options. Users can set automatic backups when an external USB drive is connected, for example. These trigger-based options provide users with even greater flexibility in customizing their personal backup solutions.
Acronis True Image is known for its ability to recover systems to the same or different hardware. Enhanced WinPE media further enhances the capabilities of Universal Restore. The improved WinPE builder streamlines media creation by automatically detecting network adapters and configuring network settings. This allows users to restore their systems over both Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections. WinPE stands for Windows Preinstallation Environment, a version of Windows used for troubleshooting and installation.
Not everyone prefers automation. The new Backup Cleanup utility caters to those who want greater control over their data. Users can manually select and delete unnecessary backup versions and unneeded files, freeing up disk space while retaining essential data.
Several enhancements in the 2019 release focus on performance improvements. A new file-to-cloud format enhances the reliability and performance of cloud backups for both Windows and Mac. The user interface has also been redesigned for greater intuitiveness.
Acronis True Image 2019 includes an improved version of Acronis’ ransomware protection. The updated Acronis Active Protection technology safeguards data, files, and systems on local PCs or Macs. It also extends protection to data stored on network shares and NAS devices, recognizing their growing importance in home networks.
Acronis technology is trusted by a wide range of users, including organizations like Arsenal Football Club and Williams Martini Formula 1 Racing.
