8 Tools to Generate Blog Post Ideas for Inspiration

Experiencing a creative slump when it comes to your blog? Don’t worry, blog topic generators can help! These handy tools can jumpstart your imagination and ensure a steady stream of interesting, captivating, and clickable content.

1. HubSpot’s Blog Topic Generator

HubSpot’s Blog Topic Generator requires you to provide three nouns, and in return, it presents five blog topic suggestions designed to get your creative gears turning.

When I tried “art,” “creativity,” and “design,” the suggestions were surprisingly decent!

2. Portent’s Content Idea Generator

Portent’s Content Idea Generator is about as straightforward as it gets. Simply plug in a keyword and watch the magic happen. This particular generator has a touch of humor, injecting witty remarks and jokes in bubbles alongside its topic recommendations. As is often the case with these tools, some of the suggestions might seem a bit outlandish, but with a bit of patience, you’re bound to unearth some real treasures.

3. Build Your Own Blog’s Idea Generator

What distinguishes the Blog Post Idea Generator from Build Your Own Blog is that you don’t need to input industry-specific keywords. Just hit the “generate blog post idea” button and see what pops up.

Naturally, you’ll need to tailor these suggestions to resonate with your specific audience. While the ideas might not be groundbreaking, you might stumble upon something that piques your interest. Here are a few titles this random blog topic generator came up with when I gave it a spin:

  • X Myths About….
  • 10 Things Your Competitors Can Teach You About…
  • Top X Must Have’s For _________
  • 7 Reasons Why ___________ Always Works

4. Blog Title Idea Generator

This Blog Title Idea Generator from Inbound Now operates much like the previous one. It’s a solid tool that’s likely to provide you with some useful blog post title ideas. Not much more to add on this one.

The Link Bait Generator lacks the visual flair of some other blog idea tools, sporting a more minimalist and bare-bones interface. After entering your keyword, you’re asked to specify the intended tone of your blog post:

  • Controversial
  • Fun
  • A List
  • Shocking

What makes Link Bait Generator stand out is its ability to offer insights into effective phrasing and title structures based on your desired post style. No other blog post idea generator takes into consideration the specific approach or spin you’re aiming for. When I opted for controversial topics, it generated ideas like:

  • X Things the Media Hasn’t Told You About _________
  • The Connection Between X and Sex (Hmm, I’m tempted to try “PPC” here).
  • X Reasons Why ________ Is The End of the World As We Know It While these suggestions might come across as a tad too “Buzzfeed-y” for some, they certainly aim for maximum clickability. I view the Link Bait Generator as an intriguing glimpse into human psychology, prompting you to consider what motivates people and what kind of language truly grabs their attention. 6. ContentIdeator

ContentIdeator is another blog topic idea generator that provides suggestions based on your chosen keyword. What sets ContentIdeator apart is its ability to generate numerous pages of suggestions (though by page 4, they start to lose coherence).

Some suggestions are surprisingly specific. For instance, when I entered “art,” it suggested topics like:

  • Reasons to Start Your Own Stamp Collection
  • Music and Art Are Inextricably Linked: A Look at Ronnie Wood Art
  • What Batman Can Teach Us About Cartoon Fonts Conversely, other suggestions are remarkably vague. My initial four generated suggestions were:
  • How to Buy Modern Art
  • Modern Art Online
  • Ways To Find and Buy Modern Art
  • Choosing Art You’ll need to use broader keywords to yield any substantial results. My search for “health food” yielded only one (rather uninspired) suggestion, while “health” worked perfectly fine. While I’d recommend exploring other tools before resorting to this one, if you’re willing to sift through the results, you might stumble upon a topic that resonates with you.

7. Content Strategy Helper

The Content Strategy Helper by Built Visible is actually a Google Doc tool that conveniently generates blog topic ideas directly within your Google spreadsheet. This tool gathers information from various sources, including Google News, Google Insights, Reddit, YouTube, Topsy, to identify trending stories. As an added bonus, it also suggests outreach contacts for related topics, which can always come in handy.

Unlike traditional blog topic generators, this tool focuses on providing information about currently popular stories. However, staying informed about these trending topics can be invaluable for shaping your content strategy and identifying newsworthy stories you might want to capitalize on. While not a blog topic generator in the conventional sense, the Content Strategy Helper can be a valuable addition to your content toolkit. However, if you already rely on your own preferred methods for monitoring trending news, you might not find Content Strategy Helper to be particularly groundbreaking.

8. Buzzsumo

Buzzsumo is a personal favorite of mine. Similar to the previous tool, it highlights currently popular articles (rather than solely focusing on article concepts). Buzzsumo offers excellent insights into effective title structures and engaging topics. It’s incredibly user-friendly - you can search by topic or website URL (always a good idea to keep tabs on what kind of topic articles your competitors are publishing!). Don’t forget to experiment with the filters! To focus on newsworthy stories, you can limit your search results to the past week or month.

3 Final Tips on Generating Blog Post Titles & Ideas

  • Blog, Borrow, Steal: Take note of headlines that grab your attention. Don’t hesitate to borrow those headlines and adapt them to suit your own content. After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
  • Same But Different: You’ll notice that most topic generators tend to generate similar ideas. This is because they employ formulas that have proven to be effective and apply them to your chosen themes. If you find yourself gravitating toward one generator in particular, stick with it!
  • Expand Upon Generator Ideas: The “X Things You Don’t Know About ___________” is a classic blog topic. While it might be overused, it continues to be suggested because it works – it piques readers’ curiosity. Don’t shy away from using these tried-and-true blog structures, but remember to infuse them with your own creativity to make them your own. What are your thoughts on these blog post title generators?
